MEET THE DOCTOR
Jason M. Cuéllar, M.D., Ph.D.
Board-Certified Orthopaedic Spine Surgeon Specializing in Advanced Spine Care
Dr. Jason M. Cuéllar is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopaedic spine surgeon serving patients throughout South Florida. At Palm Beach Spine & Disc Replacement Center, he provides advanced surgical and non-surgical care for a wide range of neck, back, and spinal conditions, with a special focus on artificial disc replacement and motion-preserving spine surgery.
Known for his precise, patient-centered approach, Dr. Cuéllar helps patients explore the most appropriate path forward, from conservative treatment to highly specialized spine procedures. He is affiliated with leading hospitals and surgical centers in Florida.
Dr. Cuéllar earned his Ph.D. from U.C. Davis before attending Stanford University School of Medicine. During his medical training, he continued advanced pain research, completing post-doctoral work and serving as a Medical Scholars Research Fellow.
His work is deeply personal. After being diagnosed with a herniated disc at age 20, Dr. Cuéllar lived with chronic back pain for nearly two decades and underwent two microdiscectomy surgeries that did not resolve his symptoms. In 2019, he ultimately found relief through artificial disc replacement.
That experience shapes the way he cares for patients today. Dr. Cuéllar believes spine treatment should be thoughtful, collaborative, and never rushed. Whether surgery is recommended or not, he works closely with each patient from diagnosis through treatment, recovery, and long-term follow-up.

Education and Training
Undergraduate and Graduate Training
Dr. Jason M. Cuéllar completed his undergraduate degree in Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior at U.C. Davis. He later earned his Ph.D. in Molecular, Cellular and Integrative Physiology, with research focused on the mechanisms of pain and pain pathophysiology within the spinal cord.
Medical School
Dr. Cuéllar attended Stanford University School of Medicine after completing advanced academic training at U.C. Davis. Throughout medical school, he continued working in a pain research laboratory, completing post-doctoral research and spending one year as a Medical Scholars Research Fellow.
Orthopedic Surgery Residency
Dr. Jason M. Cuéllar completed his orthopaedic surgery training at the prestigious New York University-Hospital for Joint Diseases (NYU-HJD). During this six-year residency, he treated patients at two of the busiest Level 1 trauma centers in New York state. He also received advanced spine surgery training from internationally respected scoliosis and spinal deformity surgeons, including Drs. Thomas Errico, Frank Schwab, Peter Passias, and others.
While at NYU-HJD, Dr. Cuéllar completed an additional year as a Musculoskeletal Research Fellow, performing both basic science and clinical research to help advance the fields of spine surgery and inflammatory cytokine research.
Spinal Disorders Fellowship
Dr. Cuéllar completed his final year of training at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center through a spinal disorders fellowship under the direction of Dr. Hyun Bae and Dr. Neel Anand at The Spine Center. This was a combined neurosurgical and orthopaedic spine fellowship.
During this fellowship, Dr. Cuéllar trained with leading experts in total disc replacement and motion preservation surgery, minimally invasive decompression and fusion, minimally invasive scoliosis reconstruction, open spinal deformity surgery, and spinal tumor care.
Inflammatory Cytokine Research and Cytonics Corporation
Throughout medical school, residency, and beyond, Dr. Cuéllar has been involved in basic and clinical research studying the mechanisms of pain in patients with osteoarthritis and other musculoskeletal conditions. This work has contributed to the development of biologic treatment approaches for select patients with pain in the spine, hip, shoulder, knee, Achilles tendon, elbow, and other areas.
Dr. Cuéllar has also developed a method of drawing a patient’s own blood, processing it, and concentrating alpha-2-macroglobulin, also known as A2M, a powerful anti-inflammatory protein that can be injected into painful joints or tissues.
